Maryland Crickets

These are the ugliest crickets I've ever seen! And I used to work with crickets....well, I did research on chameleons and we had to feed them live crickets, so I had to handle them - gross. Anyway, these Maryland crickets are like none I've seen before. They have a big round spider body and huge crazy legs. The big ones measure about an inch and a half.

They're known as "camel crickets", "spider crickets", or "greenhouse stone crickets". I just call em big and ugly bugs, squish them in a paper towel, and flush them down the toilet.

I found some more information on these while I was looking for these images. Apparently these bastards can live over a year. They have barbs on their legs that allow them to hang onto walls. That's actually where I found one this morning. I had to crush it's hard nasty exoskeleton in a tissue. Also, another blogger says they just hang out there, lying in wait on the wall, until they jump out at you!....and have the ability to bite when they're big enough. I don't know about that...I'll kill em before they can bite me I think.
The kitties like them, however. Bunny was tormenting one downstairs, one leg amputation at a time, before killing it. She looks innocent enough, but she's a ferocious beast!

ON Wisconsin! - Day 6

OK - well, we're not keeping up with the "travel blog" like we thought we would. Oops. We've had very limited internet access on this trip, more than we expected.

Day 2 - went from Muskogee to Laurie, MO. Jack's parents have a cabin there and we had a lovely 2 night stay with them. Jack's brother, Dave, and his family were also on vacation at the same time, coincidentally. It coordinated perfectly with our visit to the cabin and then to St. Louis. Jack's other brother Andy came down to the cabin as well.

Day 3 - second day in Laurie.

Day4 - Off to St. Louis. Stayed at Jack's aunt Barb's house and visited with grandpa Borrok (Evie's great grandpa). Dave, Peggy and the kids also came to St. Louis at the same time...woo hoo!

Day 5 - Went to Incredible Pizza for little David's birthday party. Evie had a great time with her first ride on the ferris wheel (with baby seat and strap) and loved it. She also did the bouncy house with her cousins. After a few hours there she PASSED OUT in the car after about a minute! We then headed to City Gardens in St. Louis with Evie's aunt Katie. She played in the fountains and had a ball. That night we all had a great dinner at Grandpa's and said our good byes :(

Day 6 - Left Missouri at 9:30am and arrived at my dad's at 4:30. Whew! Long drive. Evie is getting tired of this shit ;) Had dinner with dad and are staying with my mom.

We're heading to Madison tomorrow and leaving Evie with my mom for the weekend. Woo hoo! We'll miss her but it will be nice to be sans baby for a couple nights.....

Happy Fourth of July everyone!!
