Babies need Baths?

Really? What do they get in to? Was she playing in the mud recently? Well, we were told by a very reputable video (brought to us by the good folks at Nestle - hey, they're a corporation, they're not in it for the money) that babies need a bath every few days. Alright, cool. Something to DO with the baby. Good. So far it's been eating, changing diapers, swaddling, sleeping, eating, change the diaper, swaddle, sleep....oh, and lots of staring at the baby in between. This parenting thing is a snap! What are people complaining about? Ha ha, of course I'm joking, I know there is a lot coming down the road that I'm sure we're not ready for.
Anyway, back to the bath. We finally got to break out the cute little froggie hooded towel and Aveno bath wash we got from Beth. Beth is Kirk's fiance, for those not in the know like we are. Apparently Kirk was also busy the night Evie was born - no I don't know THAT many details...I just mean they got engaged.

Afterward she got to wear her new bathrobe from Aunt Joan. It was a little big, but hey, any excuse to dress up a baby and take pictures if you ask me.

THEN, we got to use an official swaddler - the ONLY thing that comforts the child. Marta got us one for our shower. This evening she and I were discussing the virtues of swaddling. It is true....babies love it. It's a dirty little secret no one wants you to know. We thought she looked like the Glo Worm.

Only a lot freakin cuter!!

Bunny just took over the Boppie nursing pillow, completely unamused.

Baby update!

No baby yet.

Happy Valentine's Day! I meant to post this earlier, but I forgot. These are some Law and Order SVU Valentine's Day cards by my very favorite artist of all time Brandon Bird. My friend and labmate Eric U introduced me to BB's work a few years ago, since then I have purchased prints and frequently visit his wonderful website.

Baby will be coming soon, keep your fingers crossed!!

39 weeks down, 1 to go!! (may be)

I recently decided that I'm not ordering a Snuggie - but I want the experience so I plan to wear my bathrobe backwards from now on. Look how much easier it is to read a magazine this way!

Well, we're 39 weeks now. I was hoping I wouldn't make it this far, but alas, I'm a house now. Induction date: 2/26 (happy birthday, mom!) if I go over. Here Jack and I are comparing bellies, he did his best to keep up with me, but couldn't quite do it.

Here are side views and front views, respectively.

Jack placed a quarter on my stomach "for scale".....

We obtained a bouncer from Katie and Everett, friends of ours here in Austin who just had a baby. They swear by the thing to help put the baby to sleep. As is her usual M.O., Priscilla had to check it out first to make sure it was up to spec.

Yep, looks like it works for sleeping just fine! She's been sleeping in it for literally 3 hours now...

Nighty night everyone - zzzzzz

Flight 1549 update: I AM Columbo!!!!

Its official!! Geese downed flight 1549 in the Hudson! If you will recall there was a huge mystery as to what REALLY happened to this flight in the media, and I was specifically warned against speculation by the NTSB... Well it turns out my speculation was correct! take that NTSB!!! You can send payment to me for solving this mystery for you to either my work or home address. I also have been working on this theory that an iceberg was responsible for downing the titanic. I am willing to turn over my data to the NTSB (for a nominal fee of course).

Neat Chart

I just grabbed this from the Greenwald blog the other day.
Hey I got an idea on how to save some money in this country... You see that big blue piece of the pie? Cut that in half, and we would still be the leading military spenders in the world. Ike was right... Ike was right.. Can any sane person look at this and think that our military spending is not ridiculous?

A new "special comment" by Keith Olbermann... a little melodramatic, but he gets some good points in there...

They just want to feel something real!

37 weeks and counting. Baby room is pretty much ready, as you can see in the background. No, we won't be keeping the cats' litter box in there after the baby comes :)
