Barton Springs

We took an afternoon to check out an Austin institution, Barton Springs Pool.. even though it was near 100 degrees, the water was cold cold cold. It is the 4th largest spring in Texas evidently. in the 20's they expanded it and added a concrete bottom which is covered with slippery algae.. The wikipedia page says topless sunbathing is permitted... (I would check with a more reputable source however.. it's no Hippie Hollow)
Barton Springs is not to be confused (as we unfortunately did) with the Barton Creek Greenbelt (which is completely dry)

I am glad we went now, i just found out that the pool is scheduled to be shut down for almost 9 months!! Also Barton Springs is the only habitat for the endangered Barton Springs Salamander!

It is not even close to 100 degrees here, but that pool looks really, really appealing.
