Icepocalypse Now!!

This morning, Rx and I went for a walk in out T shirts, now it is approaching freezing. For the first time in about 3 years (I am told) we are having some wintery precip other than rain! We are having sleet! I can only imagine the carnage on the roads now. Most Texans are probably huddling in their homes considering suicide pacts rather than going out in this stuff. Whereas sleet is common in the upper midwest (in May) it is unheard of down here. Downtown Austin probably looks something like this...

I don't know if you use weather.com or not, but at the top they sometimes have a "severe weather alert". In wisconsin, it was always something like, "a tornado is coming. Watch out for flying debris on your way home from work", or "8 inches of rain are expected, if you have time, move your cat upstairs", or "a foot of snow is predicted. if possible, stop driving around drunk and go home" Here in Redwood city, the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Weather Alert, "... COOL AND SHOWERY WEATHER STARTING THIS WEEKEND..." Apparently this pattern might persist for some time! Time to hunker down.

the ice/sleet lasted for hours into the morning (in areas of shade) today - Texans will be talking about this for years.
